Weissenborn Lap Steel Guitars Handcrafted by Bert West
- The Weissenborn Guitar is named for its creator Hermann Weissenborn (1876-1959). It was very popular in America in the 1920s and 30s. The Weissenborn guitar is considered to be the predecessor of the Dobro and Pedal Steel Guitars. It is currently making a comeback in popularity.
- There are two unique things about the shape of the weissenborn guitar. The first is that the neck and the body are one continuous piece, not two separate parts as in a traditional acoustic guitar. The second is that the neck is hollow and increases the size of the guitar's resonance chamber.
- Musicians who have recorded and performed with Weissenborn guitars include David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Ben Harper, and Edward Gerhard.
